ZetaChain is a blockchain platform that enables seamless interaction across multiple blockchains, including those with smart contract capabilities like Ethereum, Ethereum L2 rollups, Solana, Terra, and Algorand, as well as non-smart contract blockchains such as Bitcoin and Dogecoin. It employs a Proof-of-Stake mechanism along with a unique system of observers and signers to integrate with external blockchains. Observers monitor these external blockchains for specific activities, transactions, and states at certain times and then agree on what they've observed within ZetaChain's own blockchain.
Signers, using a shared Threshold Signature Scheme (TSS) key, are able to authenticate messages and manage assets across different blockchains as if they were native accounts. ZetaChain's smart contracts can execute based on activities from other blockchains and can even modify states on those chains using transactions signed by the TSS. This architecture allows for the creation of omnichain decentralized applications (dApps) that can interact with a variety of blockchains directly, eliminating the need for asset wrapping or bridging.
